Lecture 1 | Fire Resistant Architecture
Feb. 19, 2025 The speaker, Alan Ridley, President of the Foundation for Economic Justice discussed building materials and architectural approaches to hardening homes against fire
Fire Resistant Architecture is hugely important to Southern CA now after the devastating Los Angeles fires that destroyed over 12,000 homes and businesses. Which homes were spared the devastation and why? The simple but incomplete answer was homes built after 2008 when stricter anti fire measures were written into the building code. Also homes with larger defensible spaces marked by the LACK of combustible landscaping around the structures and homes were also more likely to survive.
